Deferring Life Until Later is like Saving Sex for Old Age
The amount of time we get is unknown.

ive been reading about how humans are not adapted to eat meat very well and how there are a lot of health hazards with eating meat. not sure if totally true. i think morally speaking, if i had a homestead and had to eat meat, i would have a no-kill policy, where i only eat the animal after it has died of old age. they say this makes for very tough meat but as u say, they help out a lot on the farm, and if u let them live to old age, they can benefit u and their kin in ways that modern civilization has forgotten. i mean just boil the meat in a stew and chew a little harder. also im inclined to think that letting nature run its course as opposed to trying to control it is usually the best option. let your animals run free, and if they get predated, thats nature. dont neuter your pets either. obviously you have neighbors so its harder to go competely natch. but making animal bridges or crossings under roads is one way to deal with that if you can get support from the local town... or just let them figure it out. id say its better to get more wild varieties of animals that are stronger and smarter to begin with, so they dont get predated or fall prey to cars in the first place. or maybe the best thing is to let nature be the guide, and if a cat comes asking for food, thats nature giving you an animal. ive been reading about vegetarianism and it seems like u dont need meat to live. i know you only have so much land, and its probably impossible to forage for wild edibles on the number of acres u have, enough to sustain yourself. check out 123homefree channel

Unfortunately, even moderately sized homes with 3 beds and 1 bath that would be just barely big enough for me and the kids are expensive enough that on my income, I may still have to have a 30 year loan on a house. And there are so many regulations, you can't just "build a log cabin" anywhere, however you want. There are regulations almost everywhere now, and exorbitant "impact fees" and other fees for building. However, I agree in principle... buy a modest house that you can easily afford, rather than one that stretches you to the max. I'm sure there are a few places with fewer regulations... I'd love to hear about those places and/or hear how others have gained their freedom! Where did you have to go? What did you have to do?

We treat the dogs with NexGard for fleas and ticks. We use Advantage on the cats. Mosquitoes aren't much of a problem here. I get the occasional bite, unlike up in New England. Hi Rob. I have no doubt that anyone would be happier and more hearty living closer to Nature. I envy people that do. I tell my children “marry a farmer: get out of here”. People get tied up when they’re young, suddenly they’re responsible for a relationship, for a child. It’s paramount to consider who you choose as a life partner. They will either allow you to live your dreams or not. I unfortunately belong to the class of people that will be lazy if they’re not required to get out of bed by a certain hour. Thus, even if I were happier as a countryman, I don’t think I would be as productive. I’m sure that you have figured out a way to live productively. But I feel that despite all, there is a sense of self-sacrifice all of us have to make. Once upon a time there was a window for me to get out of the city but I was too naive and dreamy to think of it then. Blessings to you and yours.

When I turned 40, I asked myself, "Am I really old?" I got a bicycle for myself after I left college and was trying to find work. Not sure why I didn't get one before. My mother wouldn't allow us to have bicycles except at our grandparents house I guess because she was paranoid of safety issues in our neighborhood. So, I gave up and just stopped thinking about it. Then, the subject came up again after college and I got a job and I decided to get one. It took 2 years to get from casually riding around on the street to going out for 1 hour worth of bicycling. I managed to lose roughly 65 pounds. I feel better than ever and I run circles around the managers at my job. Mind you, part of that is my ADHD. I manage the plumbing, the electrical lines, the AC unit, and the car maintenance in our household. I don't think we've called a specialist to our household in the last 5 years. If I find stuff by the side of the road that nobody else wants, I'll take it home and see if I can fix it so that we can use it.
